‘Welcome to the Wonderful World of … Boobs & Butts’ in the music industry

We all know that sadly, sex sells.

But …

If my mom thought my desire to be Debby Gibson or Tiffany was annoying … she should be counting her lucky stars that I grew up when my teen idols actually wore clothes.

Because, today’s poptarts, err, pop stars, only seem to be interested in wearing what appears to be thongs or G-strings.

Yes, the other day I made the mistake of watching a YouTube video of Nikki Minaj’s “Anaconda” followed by J-Lo – featuring Iggy Azeala’s “Booty.”

And after I washed my eyes out with bleach, I told my oldest son to never, NEVER watch those videos on YouTube.

Talk about inappropriate. Talk about an uncomfortable conversation with my pre-teen.

It was hard enough to have the puberty talk with him, let alone try to explain to him why women flaunt their boobs and asses on a music video.

Why do today’s musicians feel the need to display their “goods” for all the world to see? My children do not need to see you bumping and grinding in thongs, and get this, in both videos, girls are “spanking” other girls’ asses! I do believe today’s “musicians” have turned to a new profession – PORNO STARS!

I am not joking.

I know each generation has their own music. However, Debby Gibson generally sang about falling in and out of love at a young age with her hits, “Shake Your Love” and “Out of the Blue.” Tiffany, her rival, remade the Beatles hit, “I Think We’re Alone Now.”

Today’s generation has been “blessed” with such musical hits as “Wiggle, Wiggle;” “Anaconda;” “Bang, Bang;” and an assload of other inappropriate songs!

Granted, parents of the past were not approving of Elvis shaking his hips, but at least he wore clothes when rocking it out to “Jailhouse Rock.”

And in the 1960s and 1970s, the Rolling Stones were telling everyone they could not get any “Satisfaction” (wink, wink), but again, they were (albeit probably high on marijuana) still wearing clothes.

What continues to boggle my mind is that J-Lo (which by the way is Jennifer Lopez – the same woman who is on the Fox television show “American Idol”) has a set of 6-year-old twins just like me. How exactly does she explain her show-all video to her children? Does she even allow them to WATCH the video? God, I sincerely hope not, because there is no way in hell I would let me pre-teen watch these videos, let alone MY 6-year-old twins!
